Tuesday night’s game at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai was barred by protests inside and outside the grounds, regarding the Cauvery water issue. The game was disrupted by protestors throwing shoes at Jadeja and Du Plessis, who were arrested immediately afterward.
There was around 4000 security personnel at the stadium that night to prevent the chaos that was taking place outside, from entering the stadium. Tamil groups burned CSK yellow jerseys and attacked CSK supporters.
Although the issue was handled and the game took place in CSK’s favor, if the violence continues, they may not be as lucky the next time.
“CSK will be asked to move their home matches to Pune as the Chennai police have expressed inability to provide adequate security,” IPL Chairman Rajeev Shukla said.
The next game that was to be held in Chennai was Chennai Super Kings vs. Rajasthan Royals, which will be shifted to Pune, tickets for which have been postponed as announced by the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association.
