Neymar scored the opener for PSG thanks to the right back, Thomas Meunier‘s cross in the 36th minute. The Brazilian ran toward a banner in the crowd that called him a ‘chorona‘ which means crybaby in Portuguese and ridiculed it by mimicking a crying gesture after the goal.
Di Maria then spotted a gap inside the near post at the 40th minute and curled the ball in from the left corner flag scoring an amazing goal for the visitors to make it 2-0. However, the lead was short-lived as the hosts then equalized after the halftime when Antonin Bobichon scored at the 63rd minute and Teji Savanier scored at the 71st minute to make the score 2-2.
Goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, who was replaced for this game by Areola, shouted at his PSG teammates from the bench in an attempt to nudge them up, but Nimes were energetic and almost made it 3-2 but defender Sofiane Alakouch hit the crossbar.
However, trying to score against PSG came with a risk since the hosts left a huge gap for the dynamic Mbappe to utilize with his pace. Chasing down a high ball on a PSG counterattack, Mbappe played it expertly on the inside of his right foot without any mistake and directed the ball into his route. He then lashed a shot into the top of the net. He rescued PSG with an unstoppable 77th-minute strike to make it 3-2.
Striker Edinson Cavani then added a fourth in injury time after being assisted by winger Angel Di Maria, who earlier had scored directly from a corner.
With seconds remaining for the match to get over, Mbappe responded to a late challenge from midfielder Teji Savanier, who was sent off immediately, as he shoved the Nimes player forcibly to the ground. Referee Jerome Brisard, who had earlier showed Mbappe a yellow card for angrily kicking the ball away in the first half, immediately waved a red. Mbappe walked off looking unhappy, but the 19-year-old star of France’s World Cup-winning campaign was scolded by his own goalkeeper Alphonse Areola for his erratic reaction.
Paris Saint-Germain face AS Saint-Etienne in their next Ligue 1 fixture, after the international break, on Saturday, 15th September.
