Manchester United’s Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Marcus Rashfoid have been named as the Premier League’s Manager and Player of the Month for January, while Andre Schurrle of Fulham claimed the Goal of the month award.
These two were rewarded for their contribution to the Manchester United’s up revival in the first month of 2019. Rashford saw off competition from team-mate Victor Lindelof as well as Tom Heaton, Joshua King, Alexandre Lacazette, and James Ward-Prowse, while Solskjaer came out on top beating Sean Dyche of Burnley and Southampton’s Austrian manager Ralph Hasenhuttl.
Player of the month: Marcus Rashford (Manchester United)
The Manchester United forward was named the Premier League’s Player of the Month for January, after a string of wonderful performances for the Old Trafford side’s resurrection in form. The English international has been in magnificent form since the arrival of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the new United boss, scoring three times in his four games in January.
After claiming the award, Rashford said, “Playing consistently gives you the opportunity to be up for these awards.
“It’s the first time I’ve won the award and I think only the second time I’ve been up for it, so it’s a good one to win.”
Manager of the month: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (Manchester United)
The caretaker boss was named Premier League manager of the month after an unbeaten start to his reign at Old Trafford and striker Marcus Rashford clinched the player of the month award for January. Solskjaer, who replaced Jose Mourinho in December, became the first United manager to receive the award since long-time Alex Ferguson in October, 2012 during the season when the club last won the league title.
After winning the prize, the United boss said, “It means we’ve been the team of the month, both the staff and the players, so we’ve done well.
“We want to be winning games, we want to move up the table and this is the start of it.”
Goal of the month: Andre Schurrle (Fulham)
Andre Schurrle has won the Premier League’s Goal of the Month award for January after his sublime strike against Burnley was deemed the best. He beat off competition from Sergio Aguero, Willian, Marcus Rashford, James-Ward-Prowse, Callum Wilson and Diogo Jota to claim the accolade.
Speaking to the Premier League on his goal Schurrle said, “I saw Denis and the ball was just beautiful. “I just tried to control it somehow and get a shot off and obviously I hit it quite well.
“Yeah, it was a beautiful goal. When I look at it the control and the shot were quite beautiful, so it’s probably [in my] top three.”
