Mohammed Salah’s 23rd-minute goal was enough to earn Liverpool a hard fought 1 – 0 victory against a disciplined Brighton side yesterday and gave them an early top spot in the Premier League after winning all three of their first games. It was hardly the Liverpool we soo often talk about as a Brighton team that was fresh from defeating Manchester United frequently frustrated Klopp’s front three, maintaining a highly organized back line. But it was that kind of a hard-fought three points that Liverpool will have to win throughout the season to mount a strong title challenge on Manchester City in the title race.

“Brighton were strong, organized and have good players going forward, too, so it was never going to be easy,” said midfielder James Milner. “But we kept a clean sheet and got a win. We know we can play better but we got the result.” Liverpool made a strong start like they most often do and the Brighton keeper Matt Ryan was called into action early on as he did well to save Firmino’s header on the line. Minutes later an Alexander Arnold free-kick rattled the crossbar. The breakthrough came when Milner robbed Yves Bissouma as Brighton tried to play the ball out from the back and a quick exchange of passes from Sadio Mane and Firmino ended with a clinical finish from Salah, last season’s top scorer with 32 league goals.

Brighton kept a disciplined formation, frustrating Liverpool but creating little until a Pascal Gross header in the 88th minute forced a good save out of Liverpool keeper Alisson Becker. The Brazilian had a great outing yet again in a Liverpool shirt as he maintained his record of not conceding a goal as yet. He was not needed in action much but he turned up when he needed to as most World Class goalkeepers are expected to. He went about his business with Brazilian flair that he is known to having and looked really good along with the defensive duo of Van Dijk and Joe Gomez. Unlike last season, the Reds have shown that they can be really good defensively and now that they have, It looks like Liverpool fans are in for yet another memorable season donning the rich red of Liverpool.
