A young star in the making Prithvi Shaw has been ruled out of the remaining Test series against Australia, after failing to recuperate from an ankle injury.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India named talented player Mayank Agarwal as replacement of Prithvi Shaw in the last two Test against Australia.
The 19-year old Prithvi Shaw had rolled over his ankle at the boundary line while playing a tour game against Cricket Australia XI ahead of the first Test match between India and Australia at Adelaide. A week ago, coach Ravi Shastri had sounded optimistic about his recovery, stating that the youngster was on the path to achieving full fitness prior to the Perth Test, and had been optimistic that Prithvi Shaw would recover to play a part in the four-match series.

However, that was not to be.
“It was heartbreaking to see him go down. But the good thing is he’s recovering quickly. He’s already started walking. Hopefully, if we can get him to run a bit by the weekend, that’s really good signs. With youth on his side there might just be a case where he might recover quicker”, Shastri had told Radio SEN.
Agarwal, who is in a rich vein of form in the domestic circuit, and who averages close to 50 in four-day games, had received a call-up to play for the international team ahead of the West Indies series but was unfortunate to not get a game. He was dropped from the Australia series but showed his skills in India A tour to New Zealand, where he scored two 40+ scores along with a 60+ knock.
However, what will please the Indian camp is that Hardik Pandya, who had suffered a freak back injury in the Asia Cup, has been deemed fit and is already on his way to Australia. The all-rounder played in the Ranji game for Baroda against Mumbai last week, where he scored a fifty as well as scalped 7 wickets, including picking up a 5-wicket haul. Baroda captain Kedar Devdhar already confirmed Pandya’s absence from Baroda’s next match.
A statement that was released by the BCCI read, “The selectors have added all-rounder Hardik Pandya to India’s squad for the third and fourth Test to be played in Melbourne and Sydney respectively”.
