The Annual UEFA awards were announced last night at the draws, and it was Real Madrid who dominated all categories. With four out of four awards, the Los Blancos swept home all the awards. Real Madrid’s clinical performance in their 2017-18 campaign enabled them to pick the awards over players from other clubs.

In the best Goalkeeper category, Madrid’s shot-stopper Keylor Navas walked home with the title. The first Costa Rican to pick the award and the first in the category was Navas.

There was no surprise in the Best Defender category, as Spain and Real Madrid’s Sergio Ramos took the award home. The Spanish veteran was in his best self in the final two games of the Champions League, where he dominated the likes of Mohammad Salah and Sadio Mane.

It was Ramos’ second award in the category, after winning it previously in the 2016-17 campaign with Real Madrid. A similar story was in the picture for the Best midfielder category.

Modric bagging the midfield award:

Croatia’s Luka Modric collected his second Best midfielder award, with the previous one coming in the prior season for the Croatian midfielder. His impressive run came in the Champions League knock-out stage, where the Croat was the key to Madrid’s success.

The others nominated for the midfielder award was Real Madrid’s Toni Kroos and Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne.

While Kroos was an integral figure of Madrid’s victory, Bruyne was a key figure in City’s surge to the knock-out stages.

On the other hand, the battle to the Forward of the season was a tough one, with the trio of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohamed Salah going head to head.

However, it was Cristiano Ronaldo who walked home with the title. His impressive tally of goals in the latter stages of the competition got him the win.
