Real Madrid start their defence of the UEFA Champions League title for the third consecutive time on Thursday, with last year’s semi-finalists AS Roma visiting the Bernabeu for a Group G clash of the proverbial titans.
Los Blancos have won 3 of their first 4 La Liga games this season but were held to a shock 1-1 draw at Athletic Bilbao on Saturday. On the other hand, Roma are out of form, standing in mid-table in Serie A after winning just a single game out of 4 since the start of the new term.
Real Madrid, now without their talisman Cristiano Ronaldo, will look to Gareth Bale to take over the cape of Los Blancos’ superhero while Roma will be looking at Edin Dzeko to incite them to a memorable victory.
Real Madrid: Julen Lopetegui‘s new and revitalized Real Madrid do not have any fresh injury concerns ahead of their Champions League tie.

Roma: Besides Javier Pastore fighting a muscle injury, Eusebio di Francesco seems to have a full strength side to take to the Santiago Bernabeu.
Real Madrid: Courtois | Marcelo, Ramos, Varane, Carvajal | Casemiro, Modric, Kroos | Asensio, Benzema, Bale
Roma: Olsen | Florenzi, Manolas, Juan Jesus, Kolarov | Pellegrini, N’Zonzi, Cristante | Under, Dzeko, El Shaarawy
Real Madrid: With Los Blancos now guided under new management and Ronaldo leaving for Juve, Gareth Bale has been in blistering form recently. The Wales international has scored three and assisted twice in his opening four La Liga appearances this term.

Roma: Edin Dzeko remains one of the star names in the Roma team sheet. An effective striker when provided adequate service, Dzeko will be key to finding the net against the Spanish giants.
Real Madrid 4 – 2 Roma: Los Blancos’ grand Champions League form has made them favorites against any side they face. It would definitely not be a huge surprise to see them beat Roma and start Group G with the maximum points.
