RCB clash with DD Tonight, 8 PM IST: Two struggling teams of this season, the Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Delhi Daredevils will face each other for IPL Match No. 19 at Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore tonight at 20:00 IST.
It’s expected to be a full house at Chinnaswamy Stadium, filled with hopeful RCB fans to finally establish their positions this season and the crowd will want the rain gods to stay away. Rain thunderstorms have been threatening the city this morning and are expected to take action towards the evening. Rainfall last evening prevented both teams from preparing for the match tonight.
It’s a clash of the table toppers from the bottom, led by Delhi Daredevils with the lowest net run rate of all the teams. Both RCB and DD have managed only one win of four games against the same teams. RCB brought down Kings XI Punjab with great fielding, restricting KXIP to only 155 runs, while DD’s batting won them the match against Mumbai Indians.
RCB would expect better performance from the top order bowlers. RCB spinners – Yuzvendra Chahal and Washington Sundar have been the pick of the bowlers so far in the tournament. It’s their home ground and their fans would expect the team to come back to their winning terms.
RCB would go in the same top order or might even bring in Parthiv Patel or Manan Vohra in place of Sarfaraz Khan who has looked out of sorts so far. RCB might pick same quicks who played in the last match and would expect Umesh Yadav to the lead the attack, who has seven wickets in his hand. RCB has a strong middle order with Virat Kohli, AB De Villiers, Corey Anderson and Mandeep Singh. Quinton De Kock will also be expected to move down although his inconsistent performance hasn’t removed him from the top ranks yet. RCB might wish to test the all-around skills of Washington Sundar at the top, considering his superb performance at the domestic circuits with both bat and ball.
Chris Woakes has delivered in terms of bowling with eight wickets but has been disappointing for RCB as a batsman, placed at the end of the line-up and unable to score them the runs they need, scoring a maximum of only 11 runs. He would be expected to up his game at this point in the season.
Virat Kohli, ultimate chase-master, finally reeled in his batting power in their last match against Mumbai Indians and although RCB lost, with a little cooperation and teamwork from their side, their chances of winning tonight while chasing are high.
DD’s only win came against Mumbai chasing a score of more than 193. Jason Roy was exceptional on that day with a score of 91 runs and Delhi would need Roy to exploit that talent again. Captain Gautam Gambhir has not been serving his team well with his batting and will also need to take up the responsibility at the top. Rishabh Pant has been exceptional for DD this season and they need another fine performance from the young Delhi lad.
BIG SHOW Glenn Maxwell had a good outing against KKR on a losing note, partnered with Rishabh Pant. DD requires him to continue his good form in tonight’s game.
Mohammed Shami will be back to join DD after being held back in Kolkata for the last few days. He has not had the best start to the IPL season and it is hoped that his personal struggles do not clash with his profession.
Only probable change for DD would be replacing Vijay Shankar with Gurukeerat Singh Mann or Jayant Yadav, due to the right-handed batsman’s lack of performance so far.
It will be exciting to see two fierce and determined Delhi boys, Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir go against each other tonight. Kohli has delivered half centuries and most recently, a score of 92 runs and is in top form. Gambhir, on the other hand, started with a half-century and has been tumbling downhill ever since. He would look to climb back up, driven to lead his team to victory and defeat Virat. Kohli, however, has never won the IPL title as Gambhir has with Kolkata Knight Riders. Both have been known to clash due to their aggressive personalities on the field.
Both teams have to seize the chance to rise through the ranks before it’s too late to make amends. It’s the clash of two teams lying at the bottom and if the rain stays away, we have a cracker of a game in hand.
