The Indian Twenty20 prodigy, Suresh Raina has to his name what Virat Kohli doesn’t – a century in all formats of Cricket. 

Only two other Indian batsman own this accolade, namely Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul. A genius in the Twenty20 form of the game, Suresh Raina was born on November 27, 1986. As a tribute on his 32nd birthday, let’s recall some of his top 5 innings across all three formats. 

First-ever Indian batsman to score a T20I century: 101 off 60 vs South Africa (May 2, 2010)

On 2nd May 2010, in a Group match of the T20 World Cup, against South Africa, Suresh Raina scored his first T20I hundred. Batting at No. 3, he blasted 101 runs off 60 balls to single-handedly help India beat South Africa by 14 runs. By doing so, Raina became the first-ever Indian batsman to score a T20 International hundred. Also, he became the first ever batsman to come down at No.3 or lower to score a century in T20Is. Most runs by any player in the IPL: 87 off 25 vs King XI Punjab (May 30, 2014)

On May 30, 2014, in an IPL match against Kings XI Punjab, Raina scored a blistering 87 runs off 25 deliveries. Chennai Super Kings were chasing down a target of 227. Although they lost the match by 24 runs, Raina’s innings still stands as one of his best in the Indian Premier League in which has 4985 runs. [Scorecard]


Twelfth Indian player to score a century on debut: 120 off 228 vs Sri Lanka (July 26-30, 2010)

The second Test match of India’s tour of Sri Lanka had commenced on July 26, 2010. India’s Suresh Raina and Sri Lanka’s Suraj Randiv were playing their Test debut. Three players from both sides scored hundred, including the debutant Suresh Raina. Sachin Tendulkar and Kumar Sangakkara scored double centuries. Nonetheless, Raina had scored a century on debut thus being only the twelfth Indian to do so. [Scorecard]


Only Indian to score centuries in both T20I and ODI World Cups: 110 n.o. off 104 vs Zimbabwe (March 14, 2015)

In a Pool B of the ICC World Cup 2015, Suresh Raina scored an undefeated 110 off 104 deliveries vs Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe’s Brendan Taylor’s 138 off 110 had helped Zimbabwe put up a total of 287 at Auckland. In response to that Raina stood out amongst other Indian batsmen, with the help of MS Dhoni(85*) to defeat Zimbabwe by 6 wickets(with 8 balls remaining). He became the only Indian batsman to score centuries in both T20I and ODI World Cups. 


First century for Raina outside Asia: 100 off 75 vs England at Cardiff( August 27, 2014)

Suresh Raina scored his first-ever ODI hundred outside Asia in an ODI vs England, at Cardiff. He scored a match-winning 75-ball hundred and was adjudged the Man of the match of the same. By doing so he broke a 4-year long century drought. [Scorecard]
