The World Cup is the biggest platform in football. The greatest players are put to the task of taking their country as far as they can. The same old faces perform in new shirts and dazzle the fans, but sometimes, a few fresh faces surprise the fans and critics all around the world.

(LM) Denis Cheryshev 

Villarreal‘s Denis Cheryshev was a largely obscure figure ahead in world football of the World Cup. After scoring 4 times in just 303 minutes in the tournament, the 27-year-old winger has attracted plenty of attention from other clubs.

(RM) Ante Rebic

Another obscure player was Frankfurt‘s Ante Rebic who made his statement in the World Cup by performing consistently and industriously. The 24-year-old workhorse has been linked to numerous European giants, one of them being Manchester United.

(CF) Hirving Lozano 

The 22-year-old forward was one of the hottest prospects in world football, coming into the World Cup. Lozano has raised his stock as he scored a goal and assisted another in his 4 games for Mexico. The PSV Eindhoven star has attracted a huge number of clubs who are in a race to get his signature.

Varane certainly stepped up for France when they needed him most. His opening goal against the Uruguayans was sensational. Overall, the Real Madrid defender put on a fine performance for his country.

One of the players who are in the shadows of the overwhelming French squad. Lucas Hernandez has been a consistent performer for Les Blues.

One of the best players in the campaign for France, Chelsea‘s N’Golo Kante has been one of the main reasons for France’s success in the World Cup this year.

(CM) Kevin De Bruyne – Belgium 

De Bruyne put in a decent performance against Brazil and was the scorer of an absolute screamer in that match. The Manchester City playmaker has been crucial for Belgium in their World Cup campaign and will remain so in their semi-final tie against dangerous France.

(CAM) Antoine Griezmann – France 

Antoine Griezmann has been a key figure for Les Blues, he has been having an excellent campaign in the World Cup. The Atletico forward has registered 3 goals and an assist in 5 matches, he is also the penalty taker for his country so he has a fair chance of adding a decent amount of goals to his tally as they go further into the semi-finals. With a goal and an assist for Les Blues against Uruguay, Greizmann was undoubtedly the premier performer in the quarter-finals of this World Cup. The Atletico forward will be key to whether or not France lift the World Cup. 

(LW) Eden Hazard – Belgium 

Eden Hazard has been unquestionably phenomenal for the Red Devils in this World Cup. The Chelsea superstar also became the first player to win all 10 of his take-ons in a World Cup match since 1966.

(RW) Kylian Mbappe – France 

The 19-year old has been nothing short of extraordinary this World Cup. Mbappe has already scored 3 goals in his 4 starts for France. The young superstar was especially phenomenal against the Argentinians, winning a penalty and scoring a brace in a match that ended 4-3.

(ST) Romelu Lukaku – Belgium

The one true Red DevilRomelu Lukaku has already netted 4 goals & 1 assists in just 4 games in this World Cup, second to only England’s Harry Kane. One could argue that his decision to not shoot the ball in the 94th minute against Japan was better than his goals for Belgium.
