La Liga Team of the Week | Gameweek 2

The second week of the La Liga comes to an end, a few results surprising and a few predictable. Here we pick the best eleven performers of the week from the Spanish division.

Formation 4-4-2

Goalkeeper – Pau Lopez (Real Betis)

The 23-year-old Spaniard was absolutely exceptional against Deportivo Alaves. Pau Lopez made 4 saves to earn his team a clean sheet.

Right-Back – Sergi Roberto (Barcelona)

Sergi Roberto put in a brilliant performance for Barcelona in their 1-0 win against Real Valladolid as he provided a crucial assist for the only goal of the game.

Centre-back – Stefan Savic (Atletico Madrid)

Stefan Savic, who started ahead of Jose Gimenez, put in a solid performance against Rayo Vallecano. The Montenegro international also provided the only assist of the game which Atletico won 1-0.

Centre-back – Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid)

Sergio Ramos scored the goal which initiated the comeback for Real. The skipper was as vocal as ever as he lead his team to a 4-1 victory over Girona.

Left-back – Yuri Berchiche (Athletic Club)

The former PSG left-back scored his first La Liga goal of the season in his second match to help his side get a point in their 2-2 draw with SD Huesca.

Centre Midfield – Saul Niguez (Atletico Madrid)

The 23-year-old central midfielder put in a genuinely industrious performance in Atletico‘s 1-0 win over Rayo Vallecano.

Centre Midfield – Esteban Granero (Espanyol)

Esteban Granero was key to Espanyol‘s shocking 2-0 victory over Valencia in the La Liga. The 31-year-old Spaniard scored a freekick and got his first goal of the season with the help of VAR.

Right Midfield – Gareth Bale (Real Madrid)

The man who has taken charge of Los Blancos in the post-Ronaldo era is none other than Gareth Bale. The Welshman found the net for the second time this season as Real battered Girona 4-1.

Left Midfield – Pione Sisto (Celta Vigo)

Pione Sisto put in one of the best performances in the La Liga this week as he registered an assist and a goal as his side beat Levante 2-1.

Striker – Maximiliano Gomez (Celta Vigo)

Much like his teammate, Pione Sisto, Maxi Gomez also registered a goal and an assist in Celta Vigo‘s 2-1 victory over Levante.

Striker – Karim Benzema (Real Madrid)

The French striker scored a brace against Girona an inspired his team to get their second win of the season. Karim Benzema looks hungry as ever and will hope to add plenty more to his tally in the coming games.

The Team of the Season for the Serie A has been announced on 25th May this year by EA Sports. This team includes the best players of the season who have managed impress consistently. Juventus, Napoli, and Inter have 3 players each in the team while Lazio players make up the remaining 2. Here are the starting eleven of the best players in the Serie A 2017-18 season.

Goalkeeper: Samir Handanovic (Inter)

Handanovic played every minute of every game for Inter in the Serie A this season and kept 17 clean sheets for the club. The experienced Slovenian stopper was one of the most important players who helped Inter back into the Champions League.

Centre-back: Kalidou Koulibaly (Napoli)

Koulibaly is a major target of the bigger clubs in Europe and Napoli have slapped a 100 million price tag on him. The giant Senegalese played in 35 matches scoring 5 goals, assisting 1 and finished the season with 2,720 passes (91% accuracy), 42 tackles, 113 clearances and 40 interceptions.

Centre-back: Milan Škriniar (Inter)

Another player who played every minute of every game for Inter this season was 23-year old defender Milan Škriniar who managed to score 4 goals, make 2,171 passes(91% accuracy), 55 tackles, 171 clearances and 36 interceptions. The young Slovakian earned plenty of praises from critics and fans alike.

Centre-back: Medhi Benatia (Juventus)

Medhi Benatia played 20 matches for Juventus this season making 1,255 passes(91% accuracy again), 21 tackles, 85 clearances and 43 interceptions as he helped the Bianconeri to their 7th consecutive Serie A title.

Centre Midfield: Miralem Pjanić (Juventus)

With 5 goals and 7 assists, Pjanić is considered to be one of the most productive midfielders in world football. The 28-year old completed 60 key passes, 1,866 passes, 16 shots on target, 29 dribbles, 30 tackles, 24 clearances and 64 interceptions, showing the world that he’s good at everything he does.

Centre Midfield: Allan (Napoli)

Allan was involved in all of Napoli’s 38 games where he scored 4 goals and assisted 5. The Brazilian midfielder also boasted all-around stats like 1,554 passes, 79 dribbles, 68 tackles, 14 clearances and 28 interceptions and was very much involved in Napoli’s  strong 2nd place finish.

Centre Midfield: Sergej Milinković-Savić (Lazio)

One of the biggest revelations this season Sergej Milinković-Savić has shown spectacular form this season scoring 12 goals and assisting 3 in 35 matches along with 1,399 passes, 35 shots on target, 55 dribbles, 39 tackles, 33 clearances and 33 interceptions. The 23-year old Serbian has put himself on the radar of a number of European giants after his sensational performance for Lazio.

Right Forward: Paulo Dybala (Juventus)

Paulo Dybala, the Argentinean prodigy had yet another prolific season as he finished the season as the clubs top scorer with 22 goals and provided 5 assists. The forward has been brilliant with 1,096 passes, 46 shots on target, 93 dribbles, and 54 key passes.

Left Forward: Lorenzo Insigne (Napoli)

With 8 goals and 11 assists, Insigne was one of the best players in the Serie A this season. The 26-year old forward made 2,078 passes, 62 dribbles, 103 key passes and 67 shots on target. Another one of the players who are hot property in this transfer season.

Striker: Mauro Icardi (Inter)

The joint top scorer in the Serie A with 29 goals, Mauro Icardi had another prolific season with his club. The 25-year old was nothing short of spectacular as he helped Inter to reach the Champions League at the expense of Lazio but he was gutted to be left out of Argentina’s World Cup squad.

Striker: Ciro Immobile (Lazio)

Ciro Immobile finished the season with 29 goals and 9 assists. The Italian had the most prolific season of his career with Lazio, just missing out on the Champions League spot. With a goal every 93 minutes, the 28-year old also held the highest minutes/goal ratio this season.
