Stoke City have completed the signing of winger Tom Ince from Huddersfield in an agreement worth up to £12 million – a club record fee received for the Huddersfield player.

According to Sky Sports, Tom Ince had a medical with the Potters on Saturday. Ince has penned a 4-year deal at the Bet365 Stadium with Stoke paying £10 million upfront to Huddersfield for the winger with another possible £2 million in future add-ons.

The pacy winger arrives as a direct replacement to Xherdan Shaqiri who joined Liverpool this summer.

The move sees Ince, the son of former England captain Paul Ince, reunited with Stoke manager Gary Rowett who he worked under at Derby. The 26-year-old scored 37 goals in 105 league matches for Derby between February 2015 and July 2017, having initially joined them on loan from Hull.

Rowett told the club’s website: “I’ve had the fortune to work with Tom before and he’s a terrifically talented player.

“He’s very strong technically and can play anywhere across the front three, but he’s particularly good from the right-hand side.

“His record in the Championship speaks for itself and we’re really fortunate to have got him in the building.”

Ince registered 2 goals in 33 league appearances last season as Huddersfield dodged relegation in their initial season in the Premier League. He clearly believes in the Potters’ ability to get back into the Premier League as he swapped a Premiership club for a club in the Championship.

The player told the clubs website: “It’s a massive Club that’s geared for the top level. It’s up to us as a group of players to make sure it takes one season to get back up.”

Stoke Chief Executive Tony Scholes said: “Tom has great experience of the Championship and Premier League and he’s a proven goal-scorer at this level which makes him an exciting addition to our squad ahead of the new season.”

Ince becomes their 5th signing of the summer for Stoke following the arrivals of Benik Afobe, Oghenekaro Etebo, Adam Federici and James McClean.
