Mario Balotelli was released from his contract by Nice and signed for Marseille till the end of the Season.
Mario Balotelli last played for Nice on December 4th and after having a fallout with Manager Patrick Vierra, Balotelli had his contract canceled. The 28-Year-Old has scored 33 goals in 55 League appearances for Nice but had failed to find the back of the net this Season. Balotelli has been in the words of Marseille Coach Rudi Garcia, a “Number one Priority”. The player came on as a substitute for his new club and scored a consolation goal in stoppage time in a 2-1 loss to Lille.

Balotelli first broke onto the Football Scene at Inter Milan scoring 28 goals in 86 appearances between 2007 and 2010. He could never reach his full potential at Inter because of a series of disciplinary controversies and a series of fall outs with Managers and his teammates.
Balotelli has since had a rollercoaster career which has included successful stints at Manchester City, AC Milan, and Nice. But controversy followed the Italian everywhere he went whether it was the “Why always me” vest at Manchester City, the anti-semantic tweet at Liverpool or even the controversy involving Balotelli’s former girlfriend taking Legal action against him for not claiming responsibility of their daughter Pia. The player has had so much controversy and turmoil in his career for so long it’s hard to believe that he’s only 28 years old having broken to the scene in 2008.
He has been exceptional for Nice in the last few Seasons, at least on the Goal scoring front but controversy continued to follow him and it’s part of the reason why no Club offers him a long term deal anymore. At Nice, despite being in good touch he was handed three separate one-year contracts. His constant arguments with Manager Patrick Vierra ultimately led to his downfall and Vierra handed the player only 10 appearances this Season announcing that Balotelli would likely leave in January.
Marseille have struggled with goals this Season and their Strikers Valere Germain and Kostas Mitroglou have just scored three goals each this Season. Balotelli presents himself as an excellent temporary solution for Marseille as nobody can question his goalscoring talent. He can really turn Marseille’s Season around with his knack of scoring goals, considering Marseille are at the 7th place and his discipline is also taken care of considering he is on a short-term deal. It seems like a win-win situation for both the player and Club.
