The top 3 positions and for the voting to be the Men’s player of the season were Real Madrid’s Luka Modric and Cristiano Ronaldo and Liverpool’s Mohamad Salah.

While Salah finished second to Ronaldo and Modric in the Champions League, his contribution to the club was immense. On the other hand, Modric and Ronaldo propelled the Los Blancos to a Champions League victory.

Real Madrid’s Modric was a key figure in their Champions League win. Also, the Croatian was a key in Croatia finishing as runners-up in the World Cup. Croatia finished second only to France in the World Cup, with one solitary loss in the entire tournament.

Luka Modric finished up as the Best player of the World Cup, with goals and assists to his name. Cristiano Ronaldo, on the other hand, had a sluggish tournament with Portugal.

After starting it bright against Spain in the opener, Ronaldo struggled to find the net in the following games. Mohamed Salah’s World Cup was a hit and miss, with Egypt.

Luka Modric for the win:

Deservedly, the trio was up for the prestigious annual award. However, it was Luka Modric who walked home with the title.

Modric’s excellent season at the Bernabeu was recognized at the Champions League draw in Monaco on Thursday. It was the second time that a midfielder has won the award, with Barcelona’s Andres Iniesta being the first to win in 2011.

A similar story to Iniesta’s was Modric’s, who guided his team and the National side to the final stages of the competition. Thursday night capped an amazing year for the Croatian, who dreams almost came true in the World Cup this year.
