Just after Liverpool FC completed the signing of Alisson from Roma on a world record fee, Danny Ward has agreed to sign for Leicester City for a reported fee of 12.5 Million Euros. According to Sky sources, it is also understood that Liverpool have added a 20% sell-on clause in the deal for the 25-year-old.

Danny Ward joined Liverpool from hometown club Wrexham in 2012 but only managed to make three first-team appearances for the reds. After penning a four year deal with the foxes he spoke to LCFCTV and said ” I’ve come here to develop my overall game and achieve success at this club. The club has had a lot of it in recent years and I am sure there will be a lot more in the future.”

It is however understood that Ward is not being bought as a direct replacement to Schmeichel but to provide serious competition for the Denmark international. Schmeichel is in recent weeks a subject of interest to Chelsea after their number one Courtois is being targeted by Real Madrid. The Blues are considering Schmeichel as a possible candidate to replace Courtois between the posts at Stamford Bridge along with former Chelsea man Peter Chech.

As things stand, it looks like the fans are in for another exciting goalkeeper merry go round. It seems as though Danny Ward has taken the right step in his career to get more game time. His time at Liverpool has been fruitful but he has not got the opportunity to make a mark as the club’s number one. It would be the ideal opportunity for Ward if Schmeichel leaves to show the Premier league his worth.
