IPL 2018 | Match 34 | KXIP vs MI: Kings XI Punjab will be playing against the Mumbai Indians tonight at Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore at 20:00 IST.
Mumbai Indians, being placed at the bottom of the table, will face an early exit if they do not redeem themselves tonight. The three-time IPL champions usually have a pattern of starting the season in bad form but eventually making a comeback, however, this time around, there seems to be no hope of such.
Kings XI Punjab, on the other hand, is on the other side of the table, almost on their way to the playoffs, with five wins out of eight. Their home base has been shifted to Indore and under Ravichandran Ashwin’s leadership, they would hope to play with the same vigor.
KXIP has Chris Gayle and KL Rahul – a run-scoring storm that has smashed everything in its path in the last few matches. They will be expected to lead the batting front. Chris Gayle, a late buy, has made sure Royal Challengers Bangalore regretted the decision of letting him go and has proved to be a major asset to KXIP.
Combined with a wide assortment of spin and fast-paced bowlers, they have both fronts covered. Mujeeb Ur Rahman has made the headlines, being the youngest spinner to take over the IPL season. Ankit Rajpoot and Andrew Tye have also proved themselves well.
MI has to work on their poor performance in both batting and bowling. Suryakumar Yadav has proved to be promising but without support from Evin Lewis, he has been unable to lock in a victory for the team. Rohit Sharma himself hasn’t been able to play to his full potential and has placed himself lower in the line-up to accommodate Yadav.
In case of bowling, MI has one of the poorest bowling line-ups in the tournament so far. Pacers Mustafizur Rahman and Mitchell McClenaghan have given up too many runs to make the wickets they’ve taken significantly. Mayank Markande, however, seems to have given the team a little hope and will be expected to lead the bowling front. He hasn’t cracked under the pressure yet, despite his age and inexperience. However, it is high time for the Mumbai Indians to get it together.
KXIP will be expected to score an easy win tonight, however, with a few tweaks in the Mumbai Indians, they still have a chance of making the playoffs.
